About Bake Change
Hi! I'm Jennifer.
Creating sweet things is more than just a hobby for me, it has always been my unique love language conveyed through giving away my small batch, handcrafted, artisinal cookies and confections. By sharing them with others I always hope to communicate how much I support, appreciate and care about the people in my life - connection and community are important to me. I also hope that the sweets themselves bring joy and happiness.
Then, not too long ago, my mom asked me to bake some cookies for her. I made the dough, and before baking it found myself wondering whether she would rather have frozen dough so that she could bake them fresh whenever she wanted them. I asked her, and her answer was an emphatic "YES!" And another layer to my business was born!
I'm also passionate about driving meaningful change. I'm an accidental environmentalist who became interested in 2016, when my kids started in an environmental leadership high school program. Their commitment to environmental conservation sparked my own interest in climate change, sustainability, and food waste.
Certified Master Food Preserver
I started thinking more deeply about how the food we grow to consume and use (animal and plant) affects our environment. To help make a positive change I became a certified Master Food Preserver through the University of California, learning how to teach safe food preservation at home in order to educate others how to reduce food waste, increase food security, and have fun exploring healthy eating.
Supporting our community and the environment by giving to the nonprofit, ExtraFood
I also donate to and have volunteered with the nonprofit, ExtraFood. Its mission is an inspiration to me, with its triple bottom line - fighting hunger, food waste and climate change. I wholeheartedly support these things too, so ExtraFood is the perfect fit! Here’s how I've contributed as a volunteer:
I personally have volunteered in the SouperFood kitchen to make soup with donated ingredients for nearly 200 food insecure seniors. I have also helped to forward ExtraFood's mission by writing grants on its behalf, and by rescuing food to reduce waste and feed food insecure community members. Bake Change is proud to donates sweet things to support ExtraFood fundraising events/recognitions/celebrations. In this way my business further assists my individual actions in helping the nonprofit fulfill its mission.
ExtraFood and its volunteers have rescued over 12 million pounds of food, fed more than 30,000 people weekly, and prevented in excess of 980,000 pounds of methane from entering the atmosphere! What amazing ways to nurture nature!
From all of these interests and experiences, Bake Change was conceptualized. We strive to use sustainable packaging and ingredients, whenever possible, in order to have a positive environmental impact. And we support a nonprofit with a mission similar to ours. So, by choosing delicious Bake Change treats, you may pay a tad more, but you positively affect the environment, the food insecure and your sweet tooth! If you are going to indulge, why not indulge with purpose? Snack like you mean it and Bake Change!
